Welcome to The Victoria Hall

The Concert Hall at Victoria Hall is available for rent for events including corporate meetings and seminars, lectures, exhibits, balls and receptions. Enjoy your wedding reception or special occasion in Victorian splendour. The Concert Hall has been fully restored to its Grand Ballroom glory with modern amenities such as electricity!

Whether it is a small, intimate reception or a large gathering, we can fulfill your requirements. The Concert Hall & Citizens' Forum are licensed under the L.L.B.O., is air conditioned and wheelchair accessible.

Amateur and professionals have performed here since the 1860's. It is now equipped with a portable stage and seating units, lighting, sound equipment and dressing rooms. A Bechstein Grand Piano is also available on a limited basis.

History

The Concert Hall is located on the second floor of Victoria Hall in downtown Cobourg. The Hall was first opened in 1860 by the Prince of Wales. History tells us that he danced the night away, to the obvious delight of Cobourg matrons. Designed by the famous Canadian architect, Kivas Tully, the Hall soon became the legal political, and cultural centre of Cobourg and Northumberland County.

The Grand Concert Hall's restoration to its former Victorian grandeur was completed in 1983. It is an elegant room elaborately hand painted in "trompe l'oeuil" style, replicating the original colours and patterns on the walls and ceilings. The Hall has been restored to retain its acoustical quality and can accommodate performances from solo recitals to musicals. Victoria Hall was a recipient of The National Award of Merit from Heritage Canada.

The concert hall is available on a rental basis.

Directions

From Highway 401 - take Exit #472 (Burnham St.) or Exit #474 (Division St.) south to downtown Cobourg. Victoria Hall is centrally located at 55 King Street West, #2 highway.
